These may result from collisions, peer battles, falls from bikes; the possibilities are endless.

Normal bruising, therefore, tends to occur
over bony, vulnerable surfaces such as the forehead, shins and back, or in
childhood battles, the face.
A physically active or aggressive child may
sport multiple bruises of different ages which can be features of
non-accidental injury.

It is obvious, therefore that to use bruising as
the main criterion for deciding whether a child should stay with the family or
not, is fraught with hazards.
